Restoration of the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Iasi

The communal water company of the Romanian district of Moldova initiated an extensive restoration project of their local wastewater treatment plant in order to improve water and wastewater treatment quality. In this project many tried-and-tested product solutions from MC-Bauchemie were used, in particular MC-RIM, the highly sulphate-resistant surface protection for wastewater areas that can be applied both by hand or by using the spray method.

The restoration measures contained the digesters, the clarifier basin, the wastewater catch basin, a new pump station, the connection channels and the activation basin.

Four anaerobic digesters with an individual volume of 4,200 m³ were repaired using Nafufill KM 250. The re-profiling mortar is a fibre-reinforced concrete replacement for the repair of concrete structures in dynamic areas as well as in areas of static relevance.

It is a universally usable single-component PCC concrete replacement from MC-Bauchemie that can be applied by hand or with a spray gun. The high carbonation resistance and freeze-thaw-resistance of the product ensures a particularly long service life – which is of great importance, especially for hydraulic structures and in the area of potable water (and water engineering).

The four primary clarifiers of the wastewater treatment plant Iasi with a diametre of 40 m were repaired with Nafufill KM 250 HS (highly sulphate-resistant version).

For the surface protection the novel product system MC-APC was used. The same system was used for the new connection channels. This self-cross-linking, crack-bridging coating safeguards lasting flexibility, even in areas in permanent contact with water. In addition it is also UV-resistant, is alkali and freeze-thaw-resistant and chloride-proof.

A combination of Nafufill KM 250 HS and the mineral protection MC-RIM were also applied in one of the secondary clarifiers with a diametre of 65 m, in four activation basins with a coating substrate of almost 10,000 m², and in four static thickener basins with a diametre of 20 m.
